Facial expressions are a natural part of our everyday communication, but over time, these repeated muscle movements can permanently etch lines and wrinkles into the skin around the eyes, brow, and forehead. This can make us look stressed, tired, or tense, even when we feel good.
What Are Neurotoxins?
Neurotoxins, commonly referred to as wrinkle relaxers, temporarily relax the muscles that create these lines, softening wrinkles and creating a smoother, more refreshed look with no downtime.
Neurotoxins are ideal for treating:
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Deep lines on the forehead
- Frown lines or “elevens” between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
What Are the Benefits of Neurotoxins?
This simple treatment is popular due to its many advantages, including:
- Softening fine lines and wrinkles caused by repeated muscle movements
- Smoothing forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet
- Preventing deeper lines from forming over time with consistent treatments
- Quick treatment with no downtime
- Predictable, reliable results
- Creating a naturally relaxed appearance that still looks like you
For a complete refresh, neurotoxins can be paired with dermal fillers to enhance volume and sculpt your features.
Neurotoxin Injection Procedure
Neurotoxin formulas are carefully injected into targeted facial muscles using a very small needle. Treatment takes just a few minutes per area, and most sessions are completed within 15 to 30 minutes. Many patients schedule their appointments during a lunch break because there is virtually no downtime.
Types of Neurotoxin Treatments
There are various neurotoxin injectables available, and the ideal type for you will depend on the correction needed. During your initial consultation, Dr. Bartow will evaluate you to determine the best formula to meet your individual needs and achieve your goals.
BOTOX® Cosmetic
Made of a protein derived from botulinum toxin A, BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes the targeted muscles and is FDA-approved for treating fine lines and wrinkles, deep lines on the forehead, frown lines, crow’s feet, and furrows between the eyebrows. BOTOX® Cosmetic typically takes four to seven days for the onset to be noticeable, and the results usually last between three and six months.
In addition to cosmetic facial rejuvenation, BOTOX® is also an FDA-approved treatment for chronic migraine headaches, primary axillary hyperhidrosis (excessive underarm sweating), and an overactive bladder.
Dysport®
Dysport® has been FDA-approved for use in the United States since 2009. Dysport® is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic but has a slightly faster onset, with results becoming apparent in one to two days. Dysport® offers natural-looking results that last up to four months.
XEOMIN®
XEOMIN® is similar to BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport®, and it contains the same active ingredient — botulinum toxin A — to paralyze the muscles and smooth wrinkles. XEOMIN® is FDA-approved for improving the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar wrinkles (frown lines between the eyebrows). Results from XEOMIN® typically become noticeable in three to four days and last for about three months.

How long do results last?
Most neurotoxin results last three to four months, though some patients experience a longer duration depending on muscle activity and treatment consistency.
